5 Tips for Avoiding Holiday Weight Gain

I know I can’t be the only one trying to figure out how to eat all the mac and cheese, cakes, and sweet potato soufflé without gaining weight this year. In all seriousness though, these past couple months I have been working hard at my weight loss goals. I have lost some back fat and I don’t want it back. I’m entering the holidays with these 5 tips in mind.

  1. Plan Ahead. Simply put, I am not throwing caution to the wind. I am treating Thanksgiving like a cheat meal…okay maybe a half cheat day, but not a cheat week. I have meal prepped and found some healthy fast food options to keep me on track while traveling for the holiday weekend.

  2. Only eat what you love. *Insert hand claps* Sis, if the mac n’ cheese ain’t poppin’, don’t eat it! I am spending my calories wisely this holiday season. If I’m eating some cake, it has to be worth it, like moist red velvet cake worth it. Keeping my standards high keeps me from consuming extra and unsatisfying calories. Not all calories are created equal.

  3. Don’t overeat. My first plate will be small so that I can taste test the dishes I want. The second plate will consist of my favorites. Once I get the signal that I’m full, I will save the rest for later. I also know that I cannot starve myself until Thanksgiving dinner is ready or I will eat fast and therefore overeat. Not doing it!

  4. Don’t drink your calories. Drinking water with my meals is my norm, but I usually give myself a pass on holidays. This year, I am sticking with water. I will spend those calories on dessert instead.

  5. Last but not least, get active. No surprise here, right? The hubby and I will definitely throw the munchkin in the stroller for a family walk on Thanksgiving morning.

Those are my top 5 tips. What are some tips you’re abiding by this holiday season?
