5 Simple Self-Care Practices

Hello Loves,

So I have been talking to a few of my girlfriends and their idea of self-care seems to be expensive vacations or trips to the spa. I just want to say “it ain’t gotta be all of that”. Quite frankly, I think it’s the daily self-care practices that add up to an improved sense of well-being. Here are some ideas that you can put into practice today and it may cost you nothing at all.

1.       Take a walk- When I feel overwhelmed at work, like shoulders raised to my ears overwhelmed, taking a short walk is my go-to. This works at home too. Whether I ask the hubby to watch the munchkin for a few minutes or I throw him in a stroller, there’s something about taking a break from a stressful situation that helps me reset.

2.       Do something you enjoy doing by yourself- Growing up with a house full of siblings, the bathroom was my favorite place to escape. These days I like to watch trash reality tv, go to the movies by myself, or listen to a podcast while I shower and wash my hair.

3.       Take a nap- Wheww this is big. This can often be tough to pull off, but if you can make it happen, I say do it! I don’t take naps often, but when I do everyone wins: me, hubby, and my munchkin.

4.        Put Your Phone Down- Just do it. We receive so much stimulation through our phones. You think that scrolling on your favorite app is passive, but it is not. You are still receiving a lot of messages through the images and advertisements in those apps. If you need a true mental break, put down the phone.

5.        Say yes to the help or request it- Your mom, sister, cousin, and aunt has offered to take the kids somewhere to give you a break. Let them! Cash in on that offer and take the time to do nothing. Don’t let the only time you ask someone to watch them be because you have something else to do. Take some time for you. Not only do you deserve it, you need it!

Any ideas to add to this list? I’ll share them in another post.
